I am Kiran, freelancer and regular seller of 3D models on different sites, I would like to share an article out of my experiences in past two years on selling models on sites. The fact is there are thousands out there searching for the best model that meets quality standards for their projects.

What are the standards of a Model?
That`s right the model should be professional, in Quads,Unwrapped properly, textured at least in 1K texture maps.
What Models sell better?
The models of famous cartoon characters like Tom and Jerry, Collection of Low res people models like Men and women in formals, jogging dress etc, Realistic models of popular film actors, famous personalities like Michale Jackson,Angelina etc, Realistic models of animals etc.
What Models sell the least?
Well models of airplanes, tankers, boats, cars etc why because there are lots out there already in a big list. How ever a very realistic motorbike, Helicopter with each and every detail has demand on site. They may sell for about 80 to 100 dollars.
What Models do I sell?
I enjoyed successful selling of my famous character Tom. This rigged model was sold by four copies on Creative crash in single month. I am selling realistic model of Mahathma Gandhi,NTR, Pterido, Tree frog,Rat with fur and others too.I also sell textures and reference images on 3D studio.com.
How to prepare model for selling?
The model ones is ready with texture maps, it should be converted into multiple formats like Obj, Fbx, Ztl,Lightwave,3DS and saved in separate folders. Texture map folder should be added to every format folder if necessary you can add a notepad file with details of model and textures.
Generating the render images
Images of the model is just like the Cover page of your product, The more clear and detail it is , it sells better.Render the model in ambient occlusion or 3 point light setting with out shadows on white grayish background. Generate at least six images on 360 degree turntable.Render single wire mesh image or you can take a snapshot of model in mesh by print screen method and editing in photoshop. Render the parts of model with details in closeup as many necessary. Put all the rendered images in separate folder with proper naming like wire mesh image, front, back etc.You can also create a turntable video and upload in you tube and can use its link in some sites. In creative crash.com it is must for character rigs.
Which site is best?
The best site for selling the models is the one which has best web traffic, best customer support, best user interface and sure the best commission rate.Out of my two years experience I recommend the following sites.Creativecrash is top-1 with pretty good web traffic, but the commission rate is poor.
Last month my character of Tom got sold four times for 170 dollars, I got only 94 dollars. The models and character rigs are moderated by site team members and will be put for sale after one or two days.
Top-2 is 3dstudio. The commission rate is good.Out of 100 dollars of sale you get 80 dollars. That`s great bonus compared to other sites. There are couple of benefits like loyalty program, affiliate program etc which adds to your income. You can start selling in this site through this link
3D Models
Top-3 is the falling pixel. The best part of this site is you can request your money
any time into your paypal account. The other sites you have to wait till seventh of next month. The web traffic for this site is average. The other sites where you can sell are 3D export,3D ocean, AXYZ design, DAZ 3D, Rendorisity, 3DM3.com, 3DO2.com, cgtrader etc.
How to start selling?
Register in all the three sites and start uploading Images, compressed folders of models with textures accordingly. Price your model between 20 and 100 dollars. Price Below and above that price wont get sold.Once your models got sold you will be informed on mail or you can check it on your accounts dashboard. You need paypal account for transferring your money into your banks account. For that register in paypal. It will ask for PAN number, bank account number.
